On Sunday 23rd October at St Christopher’s Church, Willingale, Essex Young Farmers held their Annual Harvest Service.
The Willingale Church Bell ringers kindly offered to come and ring the bells prior to the service which was a lovely touch to the event. With a steady stream of Subscribers and members coming through the door, Maret Fulcher and Veronica Kelsey were busy handing out orders of service on the door. Time soon came round for the service to start and we had a Church full! The service was held by Janet Nicholls, Essex’s rural adviser and agricultural chaplain. When the first Hymn played members from each club brought to the front their ‘Harvest Gifts’. These were baskets full of items representing various parts of Harvest – Sheep Fleece, Hedgerow goods and much more.
A Willingale Farmers son and Ongar Young Farmers Chairman, Jack Bosworth, read out his brilliant Harvest Report and County President Stretch Fulcher did a reading. County Chairman Hannah Kelsey, followed by reading out the Prayers of Intercession alongside Peter Hickling from RABI.
Just before the service ended, we all wanted to sing happy birthday to a very special person…the one and only Roy Boreham MBE. Roy is our Life President and it just so happened to be his 85th Birthday. So with the service all done we then had Tea, Coffee, Cake and a good natter! It was great to see so many Subscribers and Members having a good catch up.
Thank you to Veronica Kelsey, Marion Thompson and Stretch Fulcher with helping to decorate the church with all the Harvest Themed items in the morning and thank you to all the members who helped with the tea’s, coffee’s, Cake making/serving, washing up and packing away in the kitchen!
