'You don't have to be a farmer to be a Young Farmer'
A BIT ABOUT US
Working Towards a Better Tomorrow
The Essex County Federation of young Farmers Club is a youth organisation made up of 16-28 year olds and, despite the name, you don't have to be a farmer to join, absolutely anyone can be a member!
Essex Young Farmers is run by it's members for its members so everyone has the chance to have a say in what goes on.
We are one of the largest rural youth organisations in the UK dedicated to young people who have a love for agriculture and rural life. Led by young people, for young people, our Young Farmers' Clubs provide their members aged 16 to 28 with a unique opportunity to develop skills, work with their local communities, travel abroad, take part in a varied competitions programme and enjoy a dynamic social life.
You don't need to be involved in farming to be a Young Farmer - just someone who appreciates the countryside and enjoys rural life. If you would like more information about joining your nearest Young Farmers' Club
CLUBS
Each county has its own clubs that are run purely by the members. Each club votes in a club chairman and secretary at the begging of the Young Farmers year (which runs September - August). The chairman and secretary are also accountable for relaying back members' views and ideas to the county. Each club is different - some clubs meet once a week, others meet just twice a month.
COUNTY
Alongside Essex in the Eastern Area we have Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Hertfordshire, and Suffolk. Each County has a committee, including a County Chairman and various other roles. Essex also has a County Organizer working in the County Office. There are several sub-committees responsible for different aspects of the County. Some of the other committees include show, competitions, fundraisings, activities etc.
AREA
There are seven areas: Northern, East Midlands, West Midlands, Eastern, South East, South West and Wales. Each county is part of an area across the UK. Every area has a committee and representatives from the counties within that area who are responsible for discussing and making decisions, reporting area decisions back to the National, organizing competition days, and even organizing events for the members. EYFC sits within the Eastern Area.
NATIONAL
Every Young Farmers Club member is affiliated to the National Federation of Young Farmers Clubs (NYFYC). NFYFC has a President, Chairman, Staff and a Board of management. These roles include area representatives, as well as a council and steerings groups.
